2023 Rickenbacker 1993Plus 12-String Electric Guitar

Pete Townshend asked Rickenbacker to refine his beloved Model 1993, resulting in the 1993Plus. This classic semi-hollow 12-string features a slightly wider neck, a Caribbean rosewood fingerboard, and a more stable two-piece neck with a rounded heel for improved comfort and upper-fret access. Appointments include three vintage reissue Toaster Top single-coil pickups, stereo output, trapeze tailpiece, vintage knobs, a proper F-hole, double body binding, and pearlescent inlays. X-bracing enhances the rich, full jangle that defines Rickenbacker 12-strings. The original 1993 design was once exclusive to British distributor Rose Morris in the 1960s.

Nearly the entire instrument is constructed from high-grade maple, contributing to its famous sustain, clarity, and shimmering top end, while also providing excellent neck stability. The thick rosewood fingerboard adds warmth and harmonic depth, balancing the guitar’s natural brightness.

At its core are Rickenbacker’s proprietary electronics: three Toaster Top single-coils that deliver classic stringy chime with an aggressive edge heard on early Who recordings like “I Can’t Explain.” A five-knob control layout with blend knob offers extensive tonal flexibility.

Rickenbacker’s Rick-O-Sound outputs allow each pickup to be sent to separate destinations, making it easy to run two amps at once or create instant stereo tracks in the studio—perfect for building a massive, layered wall of sound from a single performance.
