Surprisingly strong and still very heavy. Does not need any kind of additional help.
Notice how in this picture, I left the top cover off, and on the neighboring hive. I had to go back and triple check that I didn't leave it like that for good. In any case, in the top box I just have some organic insulation material. I have been doing that for years and it has always worked well for me over the winter. Keeps the heat in and also absorbs some of the unwanted moisture.

Reversed brood boxes and added super
This is the hive that has 3 short frames used in the brood box. Now they are in the top brood box. I need to cycle those out as the bees have extended them in a semi wild comb way. I reversed the brood boxes and added a super with the queen excluder.
